Biography

Dr. Jaafar joined the American University of Beirut (AUB) in 2012 bringing with him over 10 years of international expertise in irrigation engineering and water resources management and design and rehabilitation of irrigation projects. He is an Associate Professor in Irrigation Engineering and Water Management at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences (FAFS) at the American University of Beirut (AUB). He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Agriculture, and a Master’s of Science degree in Irrigation from the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences (FAFS) at the American University of Beirut (AUB). His research work appears in journals like Nature's Scientific Data, Remote Sensing of the Environment, Journal of Hydrology, Agricultural Water Management, Food Policy, among many others.

Dr. Jaafar is the project manager and the lead principal investigator of many grants, including a $1M Google-funded 3-yr project that aims to improve irrigation scheduling by farmers using satellite imagery and weather data.  Dr. Jaafar also has many international collaborations (USDA, NASA, IHE-Delft). He is also a member of the Surface Biology & Geology Applications Working Group led by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory – NASA at the California Institute of Technology.

Vanessa Srouji is the founder of V Divino, a Lebanese wine brand. She got the title of the youngest wine entrepreneur in Lebanon by Annahar in 2019. Vanessa completed a dual undergraduate degree of Agribusiness (BS), and Agriculture (BS) with a Diplôme Ingénieure Agricole from the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences (FAFS)  at the American University of Beirut (AUB). She is also pursuing her graduate degree in Ecole de Commerce – France in wine marketing and management. Vanessa completed a semester in Ecole d’Ingénieure de Purpan – France.
