The Saint Joseph University is a private Catholic research university founded in 1875 by the Jesuits. USJ and its degrees are officially recognized by the Lebanese state. It was accredited by AERES (a French academic research evaluation agency) in 2009.

The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, is a private Catholic university founded in 1938 by the Lebanese Maronite Order. USEK is multilingual but French is the most common language at the university. The university has eleven faculties and four Institutes.
